About the method

The Alexander Discipline summary collects the measures R. G. Alexander used to set goals for fixed appliance treatment. Skeletal class comes from SNA, SNB, and ANB, vertical pattern from FMA and SN-MP. Incisor inclination is compared with an individual norm that shifts with SN-MP. Lower incisor to A–Pog and lips to the E-line link the dentition to the profile. CephCalc calculates everything from one tracing.

What the analysis focuses on

SNA, SNB, ANB, FMA, SN-MP, I-SN and i-MP with individual norms, Ii, OP–SN, L1–APog, E-line.

When to use it clinically

Fits the record before bonding: you see how much torque the incisors need for this growth pattern. With a high SN-MP the lower incisor norm drops, and the table accounts for it. L1–APog and the E-line help you discuss profile changes with the patient. For skeletal prognosis, add Kim or Björk on the same image.

What CephCalc calculates

  • 21 landmarks
  • 12 measurements
  • SNA: ∠ SNA — angle between lines S–N and A–N (maxillary position relative to the cranial base)
  • SNB: ∠ SNB — angle between lines S–N and B–N (mandibular position)
  • ANB: ∠ ANB — difference in jaw positions: angle between B–N and A–N
  • MP-FH: ∠ MP–FH — mandibular plane K2–Me to Frankfort Po–Or (FMA / Slavicek)
  • SN-MP: ∠ SN-MP — angle between S–N and the mandibular tangent K2–Me
  • i-MP: ∠ i-MP — lower incisor inclination B1–B2 to the K2–Me plane
  • I-SN: ∠ I-SN — upper incisor inclination A1–A2 to the S–N plane
  • Ii: ∠ Ii — interincisal angle between incisor axes
  • OP-SN: ∠ OP–SN (Steiner) — occlusal plane ii–P6 to S–N
  • L1-APog: L1–APog (mm, Ricketts) — lower incisal edge to the line A–Pog (+ anterior)
  • E-Ls: E-Ls (mm) — distance from Ls to the esthetic line Pn–PogSoft (+ lip anterior to line)
  • E-Li: E-Li (mm) — distance from Li to the esthetic line Pn–PogSoft (+ lip anterior to line)
